I guess that those of you who are reading this article, or this blog in general, have heard these two names: stevia and aspartame. Since lately I’ve been researching about it, I would like to use this article to write about what I found on the subject.
On the one hand we have aspartame, a sweetener massively used in the low calorie industry, Light products, diet … that is the focus point of many critics. In fact, there are already several scientific studies that reveal the dangers of this substance. For example, a study by the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Center has confirmed that this artificial sweetener causes cancer and leukemia in rats. Other studies relate aspartame to brain tumors, ovaries, uterus, breast, testicles, thyroid and pancreas, multiple sclerosis, lupus …
Why is Aspartame dangerous? When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86°F degrees the alcohol of the aspartame transforms into formaldehyde and then formic acid, which causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus.
Especially in diabetics, aspartame passes the blood barrier and deteriorates the brain neurons and can cause brain damage, depression, panic attacks and uncontrollable anger.
Children are especially sensitive because they can suffer neurological dysfunction.
As the patent on aspartame expired, now there are over 5000 products on the market that contain this substance (of course there are many companies hungry for the profits they are getting, and they’ll continue unless they change some law)
Something that goes beyond evidence is that even the New York Times stated that Monsanto’s organization (creator of Aspartame) provides funds, among others, to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the American Dietetic Association and the American College of Physicians Conference.
Of course, these organizations, like many other responsible for our health (FDA: Food & Drug Administration), can not criticize these additives because they obtain much of their income from these companies.
If one thing was bad (sugar), the solution we are given (Aspartame, also called E-951) is worse.
So remember this the next time you want to drink some light soda (or any other product containing aspartame). In fact, the very company Coca-Cola seems to be researching and has already made requests to use stevia as a sweetener in some of its diet drinks.
I’ll talk about stevia in the second part of this article …
