Today I found an article on the internet that can give a bit of hope to those who suffer from diabetes, either type 1 or type 2, about a possible future treatment of this disease.

It’s an investigation being carried out in Mexico (9th city in the world with the highest rate of diabetes), by a group of Cuban specialists to find a definitive cure for diabetes.

According to the article, the treatment uses hemotherapy, a modern technique developed after almost half a century of research, which involves repeated use of a vaccine made with the patient’s own blood, designed to cure this and other autoimmune diseases.

This vaccine stimulates the patient’s immune system, producing normal antibodies that block and destroy permanently and definitively abnormal antibodies that cause diabetes.

Although I am not very fond of vaccines personally, and it is yet to be seen how this research evolves, according to the experts participating in the project it already has cured several patients of diabetes.

Update may 2011: if you don’t like vaccines or don’t want to wait until this treatment is tested and available in your area, I highly recommend you “The 30 Day Diabetes Cure”, by Dr. Ripich.
