This page includes natural treatments, foods and vitamins that help controlling diabetes. These can reinforce our body and help regenerate and lower the blood sugar and reactivate the production of insulin. In short they provide the body with what it needs to do its primary function: to stay healthy or come back to health. (Note: these products or foods can have more impact on people with type 2 diabetes. People with type 1 diabetes can also benefit from them, but the effects might not be as evident)

Of course, all these products and foods that help control diabetes are not magic bullets. You will benefit even more from them if you follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly.

Since those treatments can improve your blood sugar levels, you might want to ask your physician to help you adjust your meds so that you won’t suffer too low blood sugar levels.

By clicking on the link of each item you’ll go directly to the website of the online store I recommend, so you can get more details about the product, its health benefits, prices and wheter they deliver to your country. All the online shops listed below are trustworthy shops.

I’ll add more natural foods that help with the control of diabetes as soon as I’m done researching each one of them.

Yacon for Diabetes

Yacon (Smallanthus Sonchifolius): it’s a shrub native to the Peruvian Andes, whose roots are used as fruit and whose leaves are used as medicinal tea because of the many properties they offer. It has been recommended to treat diabetes for ages in South America.
Its hypoglycaemic action (lowering blood sugar levels) makes it an ideal food to help control diabetes. Its fructooligosaccharides act as prebiotics to improve gastrointestinal health, the immune system and prevent the development of various diseases.
Yacon leaves also have medicinal properties. Drinking an infusion or tea of these leaves, stimulates the pancreas and lowers blood glucose levels.

Stevia for Diabetes

buy stevia powder, liquid, teaStevia: The natural sweetener that is extracted from this plant is about 300 times sweeter than sugar, but since it is not metabolizable you are not putting calories in your body.
Stevia can be used in several ways: as infusion, as liquid, soluble crystals, powder, leaves, capsules… each with different properties or applications.
According to one study, stevioside (active ingredient of Stevia) acts by directly stimulating the pancreatic beta cells generating a considerable secretion of insulin, lowering blood glucose levels up to 35%.

I would suggest that you buy stevia with a high percentage of stevioside and the purest you can find. I recently was surprised to see stevia products in the supermarket, just close to the chemical sweeteners such as aspartame and saccharine, at a very low price (compared to the normal price of stevia). Of course, when I read the ingredients, for instance of Truvia, it was stated that it only contained 1% stevia, which means you need much more quantity and it’s not the purest you can find.

Canaryseed (alpiste) for human consumption for Diabetes

Although alpiste effects on humans have not been deeply researched yet, it is being used more and more in South-America to control diabetes. They prepare a milk with the canaryseeds which appears to lower the blood sugar in the body. Some people consider it  a superfood, one of the healthest foods on the planet.

One thing to watch out though, is that for human consumption is has to be Silica fiber free, since silica has been linked to esophageal cancer. So, don’t take just any type of canaryseed. Buy silica fiber free canaryseed.

Others state that canaryseed supports the normal health of the heart, blood vessels, liver, kidneys and pancreas.

      Hi Geoff,
unfortunatelly I find it also very difficult to find it even in my country. I can’t recommend where to buy it in UK because I don’t know any place.
You’ll have to search on the internet or maybe ask in some forums there.

      Good luck!
